The Canadian Tuxedo: Celebrity Edition

As you may know, Canada celebrated its 145th birthday on Sunday, and so the rest of the country and I enjoyed a lovely 3 day weekend. I spent most of the weekend dressed in a variation of one of my favourite outfits of all time: the Canadian Tuxedo, known simply in some circles as "double denim." I had plans to do a personal style post about doubling down on denim, however I spent the majority of the weekend indulging my nationality in other ways (beer) and uh, forgot. The Top 10 Celebrity Canadian Tuxedos

 

10. Alexa Chung

Different shades of denim is the cardinal rule for pulling off the Canadian tux (as is complimentary silhouettes, sorry Pixie Geldof) and every girl should aim to wear one like Alexa Chung.

 9. Bradley Cooper

 

 Well, we could basically find a photo of B.Coops wearing just about anything and include him on a Top Ten list for it, but in this case he gets a check mark for different shades of denim and a gold star for carrying what's possibly a man clutch.

 8. Jay Leno

 

This is the dictionary definition of Canadian Tuxedo right here. Furthermore, have you ever seen a photo of Jay Leno off-set where he's not wearing double denim? (Google it.) His accuracy, enthusiasm, and dedication to the Canadian Tux earn him major props and a top ten spot.

Yeah boy. 'Nuff said.

6. Johnny Depp

 

Only he could take something so clean-cut and classic Canadiana and elevate it to dirty French moustache hobo-chic.

Jenna Lyons doubles down on denim almost as much as Jay Leno, but earns a higher score because she's crazy chic and also Jenna-freaking-Lyons. (And doesn't she own a shocking amount of heels for a lesbian? Just kidding.)

Ah, patronizing the Commonwealth! The Queen is one classy broad, but I'm officially starting a petition to have this on our money instead.

  We all strive to be "effortlessly chic," because looking stylish as if one did it without care amplifies cool factor. Naturally, actually not caring is so much cooler. Sean Penn wore this to Cannes! Sean Penn don't give a shit. Sean Penn don't care. I love sartorial honey badgery!

Duh! No one does denim like they did denim. Wouldn't you do anything to see this on a red carpet again?
